John 12:6

He said this , not because he cared about the poor , but because he was a thief , and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
